The pandemic has left the common man reel on their knees to make both ends meet. The supposedly novel coronavirus was first detected in the 1970s. Some changes in the genome made it novel, with a tendency to mutate often. Almost 15 mutations have already happened. This makes the prospects of the future vaccine against the pandemic very bleak.
What is the impact of coronavirus on our lives? Let's analyze the positive and negative impacts of this deadly virus on us. The impact is vividly evident in all walks of life. Jobs, daily earnings, lots of business, social functions, gatherings, schools, tours, hospitals, and what not, each and everything is badly hit.
But a lot many opportunities also have come up. Just a change in scenario from the pre covid era. If one changes their outlook, a heaven full of opportunities is around. If one changes their outlook, a heaven full of opportunities are around. We need to think out of the box. Those who did it are well off now. The pandemic has taught the Indians about hygiene, both personal and public. It has brought enough time to water and nourish family ties. It has given time to set up a proper daily routine for those with hectic schedules. Many could utilize the time to do good physical exercise to reshape themselves. Many good ideas originated from creative minds. Many could write up and publish which they wanted to. A few of them could pursue with quality research.
Who is the real beneficiary of this pandemic? Is it a human-made one? Is it the IT fields with lots of new apps, zoom meetings, etc? Or the companies which sold the RTPCR kit at around 4500 rupees instead of its real cost of 1200 rupees? Approximate profit is about 3000 rupees per kit. Lacs of tests are done daily with a whopping profit of 3000 x as many lacs of kit per day, which is shared by the dealers and the companies which make the kit. Similarly, if a vaccine emerges, its efficiency is unlikely to last for more than 6 months to 1 year, necessitating revaccination quite often. This would fetch a huge sum from the common man. Hence, it is time to think out of the box. Is it a biological warfare or a trade war?
Anyway, it is the right time to pursue your dreams. We are not yet sure of who is going to be badly affected by this killer virus. We may hope for a positive ending amidst all the adversities.
This is the first issue from Orthopedic Association of South Indian States with Wolters Kluer publishers. Our members have to come up with genuine research and publish their work through this platform, as we expect this to get indexed soon. Each and every member's cooperation is solicited on this aspect. We plan to release this issue at the virtual conference of OASIS at Hyderabad in November 2020. Looking forward to each one of you for your original research work.
